It’s the weekend, or almost the weekend (depending on where you call home), and you want your Exotic Sword ASAP. But you don’t want to run around an area hoping that a resource node will spawn. I didn’t want to do that either. ”Get a Ghost with the beacon notifier!” Nah. Don’t need it. Got a better method.
What are you farming?
Zeptocyte Cores
Good. Go to Earth and head to Skywatch. Run around collecting the Spinmetal until a node appears close to the Lunar Complex or Terrestrial Complex loading zones.
Bam. The hard work is now done. Grab that Spinmetal then sprint into the Lunar/Terrestrial Complex until the words appear on the screen, then spin around and run back into Skywatch.
Collect the Spinmetal again. Do this repeatedly. You’ll have your 10 rare resources much faster than any other method.
Relic Crystal
Do The Martian in reverse and zip off to Mars. This dusty bitch has the goods you want. When you spawn, head to the right until you get to the Scablands, see the bridge on your right? You’re going to be riding beneath that like some space-troll. No troll-toll here.
Run around collecting Relic Iron until a node spawns next to the Bridge. Hard work = over.
Collect that red rock and jump on your Sparrow, zip under the bridge and to your right until you activate the Firebase Rubicon loading zone, but don’t go in! Spin around and jet back out to your Relic Iron node and collect it again.
Do this until you’ve got all your rare items. You’ll have it done faster than DeeJ can come up with new ways to say “No information this week”.
Soliton Flare
Time to take an odyssey through space, but there’s no need to collect 2001 Helium Filaments. Jump on your Sparrow and head to the right and into the Anchor of Light. Run around collecting Helium Filaments until one spawns near where you came in.
Easy Mode = Activated.
Dust the regolith off those coils and jump on your Sparrow, head back the way you came until Archer’s Line appears on your screen, then dig your heels in and spin around. Race back to your node and collect it again.
Wait, how does this work?
In Destiny, if you pass through a loading zone it resets the internal cooldown of some items in the area you just left.
So if you're in The Divide and collect some Spinmetal, it will start being shiny and begin a countdown, when it finishes the countdown it will disappear. But, once you collect it, if you run into The Breach it won't just stop this countdown timer, it will completely forget it existed. So the Spinmetal will still be there if you turn around to collect it again.
The only time this won't work is if there's another player in the same area as your Spinmetal. This is because the game will (I assume) try and remember where other players are in relation to you, which means keeping some aspect of that area cached in its memory.
Best way to get around this is to just go to Orbit and come back in, hopefully removing the player. Or set your NAT settings to Strict. If you're playing on PS, you can set your system clock to a different time, which completely removes other players from the game world! Or does it remove you from the world...
Congratulations, you just collected all 10 (maybe even 30) planetary materials for your Exotic Sword quest, and you did it the quickest way possible. No hunting for a Ghost that has x-Sensor on it. No running around checking to see if a node has spawned.
Now go wait for the delivery and then head into LFG for the Sunless Cell strike. Unfortunately, I don’t have a guide on how to stop someone from killing your Knight too soon.
